OneLogin, in their own words, “simplifies identity management with secure, one-click access, through all device types, to all enterprise cloud and on-premises applications.” What this means is that OneLogin makes accessing corporate applications and resources quick, simple, and secure. It allows your users to use one set of credentials to log in across multiple applications, so they can quickly access their apps and get to work without having to log in over and over or remember multiple, complicated passwords. OneLogin also offers exceptional security through a system of secure login tokens, so your company’s employees rest easy knowing they are protected against unauthorized access and data breaches.
At Kinetix, we help high-growth businesses and startups leverage the benefits of OneLogin to improve security and make everyday operations easier and faster.
How Does OneLogin Work?
OneLogin operates with Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML), an open standard for data authentication and authorization. Traditionally, user identities are stored across different applications, which means they would need to log in separately to each account or program they need to use at work. SAML allows these applications to communicate with each other, pulling trusted security assertions from one and granting access to another. It works for third-party web-based applications and is the basis for many single sign-on (SSO) programs, including OneLogin.
Typically, once a user requests access from the service provider, the service provider requests an authentication assertion from the identity provider. With SAML, the service provider has the ability to make access control decisions, choosing when to perform the service, and blocking the request if suspicious or unauthorized. At this point, OneLogin would issue login tokens to the applications looking for access, removing the need to re-enter your credentials.
From an IT administration perspective, OneLogin offers simplified user management. It can help reduce tickets for password resets and offer strong security. Admins can provision, assign, and set up users all from their OneLogin dashboard.
OneLogin for High-Growth Organizations and Startups
OneLogin can be particularly useful for startups and high-growth businesses, offering several benefits that apply to their unique situations:
Cloud services security improvements: The most important security element for cloud services is the use of multi-factor authentication (MFA) and OneLogin enables MFA across your cloud services through one central portal. Also, since OneLogin reduces the number of passwords required, it can help reduce the security risks that come with memorizing — and writing down or sharing or re-using — multiple passwords.
Scalability: If your team is growing quickly, it’s important that you can keep pace with it. OneLogin allows for simple provisioning to save time for your teammates.
On-premise security improvements: OneLogin can also help secure on-premise resources like server access and wireless access through commonly used standards like LDAP, RADIUS, and Remote Desktop.
Intelligent security monitoring: OneLogin is able to monitor who is trying to log into your organization, and blocks login attempts from suspicious locations or known threats.
User-friendly: What happens if you forget your OneLogin password? No worries – they offer self-service password resets for all applications, 24/7.
